Why Choose a Group Apartment Over Separate Hotel Rooms?
Traveling with friends is one of the best ways to experience Vienna, but booking three or four separate hotel rooms can blow your budget before you even step off the plane. A group apartment changes the equation entirely. Instead of scattering your crew across different floors of an anonymous hotel, you share a single, spacious living space where you can plan your days together over morning coffee, cook group dinners with ingredients from the Karmelitermarkt, and simply enjoy each other's company in a real Viennese home.
At Old Vienna Apartments, our Superior apartment sleeps up to 6 guests across 60 square metres of well-designed living space. At just €90 per night, that works out to an incredible €15 per person per night – a fraction of what you would pay for even the most basic hotel room in central Vienna. And unlike a hotel, you get a fully equipped kitchen, a shared living area, free WiFi, and the flexibility of self check-in so your group can arrive on its own schedule.
Our Apartment Options for Groups
Depending on the size of your group, we offer several apartment types that can work for group travel:
- Quartett Apartment (4 guests, 40m², €70/night): Perfect for a group of four friends. At €17.50 per person per night, you get a comfortable space with a full kitchen and plenty of room to relax after a day of sightseeing. This is an excellent option for two couples traveling together.
- Superior Apartment (6 guests, 60m², €90/night): Our largest apartment and the ultimate group accommodation. With 60 square metres, there is room for everyone to spread out. At just €15 per person per night, it is the most affordable per-person option we offer. The spacious kitchen makes it easy to cook for the whole group.
For larger groups of 8 or more, you can book multiple apartments in our building. Since all apartments are located at Herminengasse 12, your group stays under one roof while still enjoying separate private spaces. Contact us at oldviennarooms.reservations@gmail.com for multi-apartment group bookings.
Splitting Costs: How a Group Apartment Saves You Money
Let us break down the real numbers. A group of six friends spending four nights in Vienna faces a significant cost difference between hotel rooms and a shared apartment:
- Hotel option: 3 double rooms at an average of €120/night = €360/night, or €1,440 for four nights. That comes to €240 per person.
- Superior Apartment: 1 apartment at €90/night = €360 for four nights. That is just €60 per person for your entire stay.
The savings of €180 per person go a long way in Vienna. That covers museum passes, concert tickets, restaurant meals, and still leaves money in your pocket. Add in the savings from cooking some meals in your apartment kitchen instead of eating every meal at a restaurant, and a four-night trip to Vienna becomes genuinely affordable even on a tight budget.
Group Activities in Vienna You Can Walk or Metro To
Our location in the Leopoldstadt district, just one minute from Schottenring Metro station on the U2 and U4 lines, puts your group within easy reach of everything Vienna has to offer. Here are some of the best group activities:
- Prater and the Giant Ferris Wheel: The iconic Wiener Prater amusement park is a short ride on the U2 line. Ride the Riesenrad together, challenge each other at the arcade games, and enjoy classic Viennese street food. A perfect group outing that mixes fun with history.
- Danube Canal Walk and Street Art: Just a few minutes on foot from the apartment, the Donaukanal is lined with colourful street art, riverside bars, and pop-up food stalls. It is the most social stretch of Vienna and ideal for a group afternoon.
- Wine Taverns (Heurigen): Take the tram to the vineyard villages of Grinzing or Neustift am Walde for a traditional Heuriger experience. These wine taverns serve local wines alongside buffet-style Austrian food – perfect for groups who want to try a bit of everything.
- Escape Rooms and Indoor Games: Vienna has a thriving escape room scene with locations across the city. Try Time Busters or Escape Vienna for team challenges that are best experienced with a full group.
- Museum Quarter Hangout: The MuseumsQuartier is not just about art – its central courtyard is one of Vienna's favourite spots to sit on the colourful outdoor furniture, grab drinks from the courtyard cafes, and enjoy the atmosphere together.
Cooking Together: Group Dinners in Your Apartment Kitchen
One of the greatest advantages of a group apartment is the shared kitchen. Every apartment at Old Vienna Apartments comes with a fully equipped kitchen including a stove, oven, refrigerator, cookware, dishes, and utensils. For groups, this transforms your accommodation from just a place to sleep into a place to create memories together.
The Karmelitermarkt, one of Vienna's oldest and most authentic food markets, is a 10-minute walk from Herminengasse 12. Pick up fresh bread, local cheeses, cured meats, seasonal vegetables, and Austrian wines. Back at the apartment, prepare a traditional Wiener Schnitzel together or put together an Austrian cheese and charcuterie board. A supermarket (Billa) is even closer for everyday essentials.
Group dinners at the apartment are not just about saving money – though you will certainly save compared to restaurant dining. They are about the shared experience of cooking, eating, and laughing together in your own space, with no waiter rushing you along and no bill to split six ways at the end.
Self Check-In: Arrive on Your Own Schedule
Coordinating arrival times for a group can be a headache. With our self check-in system, there is no need for everyone to arrive at the same time. We provide you with access instructions before your stay, so the first person to arrive can open up the apartment and start settling in. Late flights, delayed trains, or different travel plans are no problem at all.
Check-in is available from 15:00, and checkout is at 10:00. If your group needs early check-in or late checkout, contact us in advance and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.
